The Canonical Connection in Quantum Mechanics
In this paper we investigate the form of induced gauge fields that arises in two types of quantum systems. In the first we consider quantum mechanics on coset spaces G/H, and argue that G-invariance is central to the emergence of the H-connection as induced gauge fields in the different quantum sectors. We then demonstrate why the same connection, now giving rise to the non-abelian generalizati...
متن کاملCanonical Relativistic Quantum Mechanics
Born proposed a unification of special relativity and quantum mechanics that placed position, time, energy and momentum on equal footing through a reciprocity principle and extended the usual position-time and energy-momentum line elements to this space by combining them through a new fundamental constant. Requiring also invariance of the symplectic metric yields as the invariance group, the in...
متن کاملCanonical Transformations in Quantum Mechanics
Quantum canonical transformations are defined algebraically outside of a Hilbert space context. This generalizes the quantum canonical transformations of Weyl and Dirac to include non-unitary transformations. The importance of non-unitary transformations for constructing solutions of the Schrödinger equation is discussed. Three elementary canonical transformations are shown both to have quantum...
متن کاملCanonical Relational Quantum Mechanics from Information Theory
In this paper we construct a theory of quantum mechanics based on Shannon information theory. We define a few principles regarding information-based frames of reference, including explicitly the concept of information covariance, and show how an ensemble of all possible physical states can be setup on the basis of the accessible information in the local frame of reference. In the next step the ...
متن کاملDemonstration of the spin-statistics connection in elementary quantum mechanics
The spin-statistics connection is proved using the methods of elementary quantum mechanics. The effect of exchange and space inversion operators on two-particle states is reviewed. The connection follows directly from successive application of these operations to the wave function for two identical particles in an s-state, evaluated at positions ±x, but at equal time.
